Apple redefines its artificial intelligence strategy by partnering with Google and its Gemini model, marking a milestone in the tech industry. In a context where AI is at the center of global competition, the Cupertino company has chosen to collaborate with Google to enhance key features in products like Siri, as announced by both companies in a joint statement. The multi-year agreement establishes that the next generation of Apple models will rely on Gemini technology and Google’s cloud infrastructure. “After thorough analysis, Apple concluded that Google’s AI provides the most robust foundation for its models and expects to offer innovative experiences to its users,” the statement notes. In recent months, Apple evaluated various alternatives, including Anthropic, OpenAI, and ultimately Google Gemini, which was selected to develop a customized AI model. Thanks to this partnership, Siri will integrate new natural language understanding capabilities and connect more seamlessly with other applications, allowing for full device control through voice commands. The Siri update, after a delay, is expected to be available in spring. Apple also emphasized that Apple Intelligence will continue to operate exclusively on its devices and through its Private Cloud Compute, thus ensuring the company’s high standards of privacy and security. This move represents a significant shift for Apple, which has historically led technological innovation independently but now recognizes the need to collaborate with a direct competitor. According to Bloomberg, negotiations between the two companies could involve an annual payment of $1 billion from Apple. The collaboration benefits both parties: Apple gains access to the advanced Gemini technology, known for its efficiency and multimodal capabilities, while Google, under Sundar Pichai’s leadership, solidifies its position as a leader in AI following the rise of OpenAI and ChatGPT. The agreement has generated controversy, especially after criticisms from Elon Musk, who warned about the “excessive concentration of power” in Google’s hands. Source: latribunadecuenca.es
