The recent announcement by OpenAI regarding ChatGPT Health 2026 has generated great anticipation as well as some reservations among healthcare professionals. José Antonio Trujillo, vice president of the Medical College of Málaga and an artificial intelligence specialist, shared his analysis in Redacción Médica about the impact and challenges of this innovative tool, which promises to revolutionize the management of personal medical information.
Trujillo describes ChatGPT Health as a "health co-pilot," a feature within ChatGPT that allows users to integrate wellness data, such as that collected by Apple Health or MyFitnessPal, and even, in some cases, their own medical histories. This integration facilitates the interpretation of analyses, preparation for medical consultations, and tracking of healthy habits. However, the expert warns that behind this proposal for citizen empowerment lies a business strategy that requires deep reflection on the ethical and legal aspects of health digitization.
The development of artificial intelligence in this field, Trujillo points out, depends not only on technical quality but also on its ability to achieve mass adoption. "Training and maintaining large-scale models is costly, especially when they must cater to millions of users. Health, due to its universal and emotional nature, is particularly attractive for these technologies," he explains. According to OpenAI, more than 230 million people consult health and wellness topics on ChatGPT weekly, justifying the creation of a specialized product, albeit not without risks and consequences.
