Barcelona once again establishes itself as a global epicenter of technological innovation with the arrival of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026, celebrating two decades in the city. Under the slogan "The IQ Era," this year's edition marks a turning point: Artificial Intelligence (AI) transitions from a promise to a real protagonist in everyday life. From March 2 to 5, over 110,000 professionals from 205 countries will fill the eight pavilions of Fira de Barcelona Gran Vía, surpassing pre-pandemic figures and generating an estimated economic impact of 585 million euros, a 4.3% increase from 2025. The organization has had to optimize spaces and locate companies outside the main venue, awaiting the opening of the new hall 0 in 2028. John Hoffman, CEO of GSMA, reaffirms the organization's commitment to Barcelona as a permanent host. MWC 2026 brings together more than 2,900 exhibiting companies and 1,200 speakers, reflecting the event's evolution into a comprehensive technological ecosystem. 60% of attendees come from sectors such as automotive, logistics, or health, and the "New Frontiers Zone" in pavilion 6 highlights its focus on space connectivity, featuring figures like Gwynne Shotwell, president of SpaceX. Huawei is once again a key player, occupying over 11,000 m² in pavilion 1, despite restrictions from the U.S. and EU. The Chinese company, the main sponsor of the event, promotes the "Green 5.5G" concept, demonstrating that it is possible to increase network capacity while reducing energy consumption by over 30%. The congress also reflects geopolitical tensions: there will be no Russian companies due to international sanctions, but there will be Israeli and Palestinian presence amid protests and boycotts. The organization defends plurality, allowing participation from companies in both countries. Telefónica stands out with a circular pavilion and its "5G Tactical Bubble," aimed at emergency management through drones and satellite connectivity. It also showcases advancements in AI for cyber defense, quantum computing applied to logistics, and accessibility with NaviLens. Regarding trends, 2026 is the year of the Agent AI: systems capable of executing autonomous tasks, integrated into Qualcomm and MediaTek chips, bringing intelligence from the cloud to the device itself, enhancing privacy and efficiency. MWC will also showcase the first prototypes of 6G, with Giga-MIMO antennas and NTN connectivity, promising to eliminate coverage gaps and enable applications like zero-latency telemedicine. Applied quantum computing will be present in real cases of logistics optimization and pharmaceutical development. In devices, the traditional smartphone gives way to flexible and multifunctional formats. Samsung presents the Galaxy Tri-Fold and the second generation of the Galaxy Ring, while Motorola launches the Razr Fold, the thinnest foldable. AI materializes in the Honor Robot Phone, with a robotic camera, and the ZTE Doubao Phone, with a native AI operating system. Honor also introduces a home robotic assistant. In photography and connectivity, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra allows for professional lens attachments and adds a rear screen for creators, while the Huawei Mate 80 Pro focuses on high-speed satellite video calls. Xiaomi also promotes electric mobility and the "Human-Car-Home" integration, while sustainability becomes a requirement, with recycled devices and the rise of brands like Fairphone. MWC poses a logistical challenge for Barcelona: hotels and apartments are nearly full, with prices exceeding 600 euros per night. Public transport has reinforced services, and the planned train drivers' strike has been called off, ensuring mobility for attendees. The city is preparing to host one of the key events of the year, with all resources dedicated to the success of the congress.
