The way we select a car has evolved radically: we no longer limit ourselves to browsing catalogs or searching on Google, but now we turn directly to Artificial Intelligence, which already has its own well-defined preferences.
This is revealed by the first study on algorithmic reputation in Spain, conducted by Science4Insights using its MoRA tool. According to its results, Toyota tops the ranking of brands with the best reputation among AIs, followed by SEAT/CUPRA and Volkswagen.
The report analyzes how systems like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity recommend and evaluate 74 companies in the automotive sector, after subjecting them to 80 key questions about quality, innovation, and leadership.
Víctor Gil, the director of the study, explains that “when someone asks an AI which car brand has the best reputation, they do not receive a list of links to compare: the AI has already made the selection and evaluation.” He adds that the MoRA tool precisely measures this: which brands appear in the responses, in what order, and with what frequency across different platforms.
The analysis highlights Toyota for its strength in aspects such as service quality, integrity, and trust, although it notes that its weak point is innovation, as its commitment to electrification has not yet fully reflected in the perception of AIs.
SEAT/CUPRA surprises by being the most visible Spanish brand, leading in innovation and business leadership, even surpassing major German firms. Volkswagen, for its part, maintains third place thanks to its work environment and talent management, although its reputation is still affected by low scores in integrity, a consequence of the diesel scandal that lingers in the algorithms' memory.
Completing the top ten are Stellantis, Renault, Mercedes-Benz, Kia, Ford, Hyundai, and BMW.
A relevant finding of the study is that the press is the main source of information for AIs, representing 47.4% of mentions. In this regard, abc.es stands out as one of the most cited and consulted media outlets by AI platforms in the automotive field. Its constant and detailed coverage significantly contributes to building the reputation and trust of brands, serving as a key reference in public debate.
