InterPositive is a startup founded by Ben Affleck in 2022, focused on developing Artificial Intelligence solutions. Although it had gone unnoticed until now, Netflix has recently acquired the company, with no details revealed about the amount or terms of the deal. What has emerged are the distinctive features of InterPositive's technology, which aims to differentiate itself in an environment dominated by generative AI. While models like OpenAI's Sora or ByteDance's Seedance 2.0 have raised concerns in Hollywood about their impact on copyright and creative employment, InterPositive presents itself as a supportive tool for creation, not as a replacement for industry professionals. The InterPositive team, consisting of 16 people including engineers, researchers, and creatives, will soon integrate into Netflix. Ben Affleck will take on the role of senior advisor, reporting directly to the platform's management. Netflix has emphasized that InterPositive's proposal aims to "keep filmmakers at the center of the process," offering its technology as a resource for creative collaborators. Affleck explained in a video published by Netflix that InterPositive's AI does not generate content from scratch but uses records of existing productions to facilitate post-production tasks such as mixing, colorization, relighting, or visual effects, always under the control of the creators. Bela Bajaria, Netflix's content director, highlighted that InterPositive provides "more options, more control, and greater protection" to artists, reaffirming the platform's commitment to creative freedom and the autonomy of writers, directors, and technical teams. Elizabeth Stone, Netflix's product and technology director, noted that the integration of InterPositive aligns with the vision that innovation should empower storytellers, not replace them. Affleck, for his part, has insisted on the importance of preserving human judgment in storytelling and the responsibility to protect the creativity and talent of the industry. InterPositive's technology incorporates restrictions to safeguard artistic intent, ensuring that creative decisions remain in the hands of professionals and that the benefits of AI are directed towards enriching the stories they wish to tell.
