Galicia leads educational innovation in Spain with the implementation of artificial intelligence
Galicia is at the forefront of educational innovation in Spain with the launch of the EdugalIA project, a pioneering initiative that will integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into the management and evaluation of the educational system. The president of the Xunta, Alfonso Rueda, announced the start of the contracting process for this program, whose main objective is to improve academic success and reduce educational dropout rates.
The project has a budget of 16.5 million euros, of which 6.6 million comes from regional funds and the rest from European funds obtained through Innovative Public Procurement. In its first phase, EdugalIA will develop and evaluate technological solutions that allow advanced access to academic information and data analytics, as well as the creation of an AI-based virtual assistant.
The integration of all data sources will enable early identification of risk situations, such as school dropout, optimize the allocation of specialized resources, and streamline personalized attention to students. In this way, Galicia becomes a national reference in the application of artificial intelligence in the educational field.
Additionally, Rueda presented a new edition of the Retorna Talento FP program, which promotes the Intensive Dual Vocational Training modality, combining theoretical and practical training throughout the cycle. This call, endowed with 1.8 million euros, will offer scholarships of 15,000 euros for up to 120 Galicians residing abroad to study in Galicia during the 2026-27 and 2028-29 courses. As a novelty, beneficiaries must begin their training in person in Galicia.
Finally, the tenth edition of the excellence scholarships for youth abroad (BEME) was approved, which will allow 250 young people to complete their training in Galicia by taking one of the more than 95 master's programs with the highest employability potential at the three public universities in Galicia during the 2026-27 academic year.
