On November 30, 2022, a turning point in technology history was marked by the launch of ChatGPT, which not only revolutionized the sector but also transformed the way we interact with information and artificial intelligence in our daily lives. Few products have had such a profound and rapid impact as OpenAI's chatbot, comparable only to milestones like the introduction of the first iPhone in 2007 or the launch of the original iPod, which made technological innovation accessible to everyone. As it approaches its third anniversary, ChatGPT has evolved at a dizzying pace. According to recent data from OpenAI, nearly 700 million people worldwide use this technology weekly for a variety of tasks: from increasing work productivity and learning to program, to planning trips, resolving specific questions, or even receiving guidance on health and wellness topics (though it is always recommended to consult professionals for medical issues). The potential of ChatGPT and other similar models like Claude, Copilot, Gemini, or Grok largely depends on the creativity of their users. Many turn to these chatbots for artistic purposes, such as generating images or writing literary, academic, or professional texts. However, the use of artificial intelligence in artistic creation continues to generate debate. Tom McAllister, a professor in the Master of Fine Arts and Creative Writing program at Rutgers-Camden University, is one of the critical voices. In an article published in The New York Times, McAllister expressed skepticism about Sam Altman's claims, CEO of OpenAI, regarding ChatGPT's ability for creative writing. McAllister recounted how, when asking his students to write personal memoirs, the results generated with the help of AI were flat and lacking in emotion. According to the professor, writing memoirs involves a process of self-knowledge and deep reflection, something that, for now, artificial intelligence cannot replicate. “Delegating this task to a machine is deeply discouraging,” McAllister states, emphasizing the importance of human experience in literary creation. Despite these criticisms, for millions of users, ChatGPT has become an indispensable ally. From drafting essays and translating complex texts to generating code for applications, the AI responds effectively and quickly to a wide range of needs. In August 2025, OpenAI introduced GPT-5, its most advanced model to date. With improved reasoning capabilities, GPT-5 promises to provide more accurate and useful responses in fields such as mathematics, science, finance, and law, positioning itself as a true team of experts at the user's service. Additionally, the programming-optimized version, Codex, reinforces its role as a key assistant for developers. OpenAI also highlights improvements in writing and managing complex texts: “GPT-5 is our most competent writing collaborator, capable of transforming initial ideas into engaging and profound texts, with expressive clarity and respect for literary form,” the company states in its official announcement. In short, ChatGPT and its successors have redefined the boundaries of artificial intelligence, opening new possibilities and challenges in personal, professional, and creative realms. The future of AI lies in the hands of those who know how to harness its potential with judgment and responsibility.
