OpenAI has announced the permanent closure of its 'Sora' application, the artificial intelligence capable of transforming text into video, just two years after its launch. In a farewell message to its community, the company thanked those who participated in the development and dissemination of the tool, acknowledging the importance of their contributions and the disappointment this news brings. According to the BBC, OpenAI has also ended its collaboration with Disney in the field of audiovisual content generation. The decision is part of a strategic shift: OpenAI will now focus its efforts on robotics projects, aiming to develop AI systems capable of performing physical tasks in the real world with minimal human intervention. A Disney spokesperson stated that they respect OpenAI's decision and will explore other artificial intelligence alternatives to continue innovating responsibly while respecting intellectual property rights. Although 'Sora' is no longer available, OpenAI plans to leverage the technology developed for this application in training robots, seeking to enable AI to learn to generate realistic videos and apply them in physical environments. It is important to note that the closure of 'Sora' will not affect the image generation functions of ChatGPT. Since its launch, 'Sora' was surrounded by controversy. While many of the generated videos were easily identifiable as artificial, others reached a level of realism that caused confusion and concern among users. This situation fueled fears of misinformation and the difficulty of distinguishing between what is real and what is fake, especially with the proliferation of deepfakes and potential identity theft. Toni Sánchez, a law professor at UIC, explained to laSexta that the main risks of such technologies are related to the spread of false news and the manipulation of digital identity. Even the CEO of OpenAI publicly acknowledged the company's fear of the potential misuse of images and videos generated by 'Sora'. (Source: laSexta.com)
