Can you imagine your robot vacuum automatically detecting a stain and going to clean it without you having to tell it? Or the living room lights turning off by themselves when you decide to watch a movie, without any prior programming? This type of automation, which until recently seemed like science fiction, is about to become a reality thanks to Xiaomi's new commitment to artificial intelligence in the connected home.
Xiaomi's goal is clear: to ensure that artificial intelligence stops being an isolated function in each device and becomes fully integrated into the entire home ecosystem. Angus Ng, director of communications for Xiaomi International, explains: “At Xiaomi, AI is designed to make daily life easier for people.” The company wants technology to be more intuitive and present in all aspects of life, from home to work and mobility, under its concept “Human × Car × Home.”
The key to this strategy is Xiaomi Local Copilot, known as Xiaomi Miloco, which represents a leap towards distributed artificial intelligence throughout the home. This system goes beyond individual smart functions and aims for an AI capable of understanding and managing the home environment as a whole.
During the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Xiaomi presented the first real deployment of its foundational model, Xiaomi MiMo, a pioneering solution in the industry that uses large language models to bring intelligence to the entire home.
Xiaomi Miloco combines advanced reasoning from language models with multimodal capabilities and data analysis, allowing devices to interpret and respond to real situations through vision and artificial intelligence. Its edge-cloud architecture processes data locally, ensuring user privacy and security.
In practice, this means the system will learn from your habits and preferences to anticipate your needs. For example, it could adjust the lighting based on the activity you are doing, detect dirt and instruct the robot vacuum to clean, or regulate the temperature according to your sleep and comfort patterns.
Additionally, users will be able to interact with the system using natural language, allowing for complex and personalized automations without the need to manually set rules. Xiaomi Miloco aims to provide ambient intelligence capable of adapting music, lighting, or the environment based on the mood or visual context of the home.
This approach represents a radical shift from traditional rule-based automation, leading to truly proactive and adaptive smart homes, where devices collaborate to create a more comfortable and personalized environment.
Xiaomi is not abandoning its HyperAI platform, which will continue to enhance AI in vehicles and smart devices, but rather integrating it into a more advanced and conscious layer of intelligence, capable of anticipating user needs. Collaboration with Google Gemini through HyperAI reinforces this vision, allowing for a unified and seamless experience across all devices in the Xiaomi ecosystem.
In short, Xiaomi is laying the groundwork for a smart home where artificial intelligence not only responds but also anticipates and adapts to each user, marking the beginning of a new era in home automation.
