The II Digital Law Meeting of ICAM will analyze the impact of the AI Act and the Data Act on companies and regulators. The Illustrious College of the Bar of Madrid (ICAM) will hold the II Digital Law Meeting on January 13 and 22, a key event that will bring together regulators, large companies, and legal experts to discuss the effects of the new European regulatory framework on artificial intelligence, data, and cybersecurity. The event, organized by the TIC Section of ICAM under the presidency of Alejandro Touriño and in collaboration with entities such as IAPP, ASCOM, DENAE, and ISACA, will take place under the theme "Law in the face of the digital and artificial intelligence revolution." 2026: A decisive year for regulatory adaptation The meeting comes at a crucial time for the legal and business sectors. The EU Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act) will come into full effect on August 2, 2026, although some obligations will begin to be implemented in 2025. This is alongside the entry into force of the Data Act in September 2025 and the strengthening of regulatory compliance on digital platforms, with penalties already in place under the Digital Markets Act (DMA). Legal and business challenges in the new digital environment The program of the II Digital Law Meeting will address, from both institutional and practical perspectives, the main challenges of the new digital ecosystem, including: - Governance of AI systems, especially high-risk ones - The relationship between AI and intellectual property, focusing on trade secrets and confidentiality - Data management and sharing in corporate and industrial environments - New digital compliance requirements - Cybersecurity and cybercrime, with a special focus on anticipated risks for 2026 The two-day format will allow for detailed analysis and the exchange of experiences among the various sectors involved. Participation of large companies and institutional leaders The event will feature legal officers, security experts, and institutional representatives from companies such as Telefónica, Repsol, BBVA, American Express, Microsoft, MASORANGE, L'Oréal, Ferrovial, MediaMarkt Iberia, Mahou San Miguel, Exolum, Prosegur, Línea Directa, Banco Sabadell, and Banco Santander, among others. Additionally, prominent figures such as Lorenzo Cotino, president of the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD), and National Court magistrate Eloy Velasco, along with other specialists in digital law and technological criminal law, will participate. The new regulatory landscape: AI, data, and biometrics under analysis The II Digital Law Meeting is set against trends that are transforming the legal and business agenda: - The imminent application of the AI Act, which requires adapting obligations, documentation, and risk management before 2026 - The push for innovation and the review of business models by the Data Act, which affects contracts and access to data, including IoT environments - The strengthening of control over digital platforms and data-driven advertising, in line with the DMA - The increasing scrutiny of biometrics, following penalties for the use of recognition technologies, anticipating greater regulatory and judicial control In this context, ICAM is consolidating itself as a reference forum to anticipate risks, share best practices, and analyze the real impact of digital transformation in the legal field.
