Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5: the chip that revolutionizes mobile AI and anticipates a new operating system from Google and Qualcomm
Qualcomm has taken a decisive step in integrating artificial intelligence into mobile devices and computers with the introduction of its new Snapdragon X2 Elite and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chips. These processors, announced at the recent summit in Maui, Hawaii, promise to elevate the user experience to a new level of speed and efficiency thanks to their AI capabilities.
However, the big surprise of the event was the announcement of a strategic collaboration between Qualcomm and Google to merge Android and ChromeOS into a unified operating system for computers. Sameer Samat, director of the Android ecosystem at Google, revealed that this project will be launched next year and represents a unique opportunity to accelerate the integration of AI into the laptop environment.
Samat explained: “We have been working with ChromeOS for a long time, which has allowed us to learn and grow, and also with Android tablets, which are becoming more productive. Now, we want to transfer all the AI advancements from Android to the laptop format and achieve seamless integration between laptops and the Android ecosystem.”
The new operating system will combine the user experience of ChromeOS with the underlying technology of Android, allowing for greater flexibility and power in devices. Although technical details have not yet been revealed, Cristiano Amon, CEO of Qualcomm, stated that he has tested a preliminary version and described it as “incredible,” highlighting the development of a common technical foundation for PCs and desktop systems.
Among the expected innovations, Amon hinted that the system could integrate Gemini and the entire AI stack of Android, along with a wide range of applications, enabling coverage of all computing categories and providing a unified experience powered by AI.
The alliance between Google and Qualcomm marks the beginning of a new era for personal computing, where artificial intelligence will be the main driver of innovation and productivity.
