Google has regained leadership in artificial intelligence with the launch of Gemini and Gemini Nano Banana, but this success is recent and the result of an accelerated transformation. Just two years ago, the debut of Google Bard as a response to ChatGPT was a resounding failure. However, the strong commitment to Gemini has changed the landscape and positioned Google once again at the forefront of AI. In 2022, generative artificial intelligence was an emerging topic, but there was still no accessible tool for the general public. OpenAI anticipated this and launched ChatGPT, a conversational chatbot that revolutionized interaction with language models and sparked the current AI boom. The impact was immediate: Nvidia soared due to the demand for its GPUs, major tech companies redirected their strategies towards AI, and competitors emerged everywhere. Paradoxically, Google, a pioneer in AI, fell behind. The blow to Google was twofold: it not only lost technological and economic leadership to OpenAI but also suffered public humiliation in a field it had helped create. They failed to see the potential of their own tools for end users, despite much of the fundamental advancements in AI—such as the Transformer architecture, published by Google in 2017—coming from the company. After years of sharing its findings with the community, Google decided to stop doing so to avoid falling behind again. The launch of Google Bard in February 2023, just three months after ChatGPT, highlighted the company's lack of preparation. Bard was inaccurate, slow, and unreliable, far behind its competition. The reaction was immediate: Google activated all its resources and redirected its strategy towards AI, leading to the birth of Gemini. Gemini marked a turning point. Bard survived barely a year, while Gemini and its successive versions, powered by Google DeepMind, have transformed the user experience across all Google applications and on Android. The multimodal approach and integration of AI into every product have been key to this resurrection. Google's rebirth has not been by chance: the company has invested billions of dollars in its "AI First" strategy. The results are already tangible: Gemini has surpassed ChatGPT in popularity in app stores, and models like Nano Banana (Gemini 2.5 Image) and Veo 3—the Google AI for creating video with sound—demonstrate the company's potential in multimodal generation, even surpassing OpenAI in some aspects. With the unification of its AI teams under DeepMind and massive investment in infrastructure, Google is preparing for the future with Gemini 3.0 on the horizon. The lesson has been learned: Google will not fall behind again. The company's future lies in continuing to develop Gemini, expanding the reach of its AI tools, and integrating them into all its products, both personal and professional. Only the launch of an intelligent agent remains, which will undoubtedly arrive soon.
