Hollywood and Artificial Intelligence: "Bitcoin: Killing Satoshi" Revolutionizes the Film Industry The emergence of artificial intelligence in cinema continues to spark debate and experimentation in Hollywood. Recently, director Darren Aronofsky faced criticism for his entirely AI-created historical series, "On this Day... 1776," a pioneering project backed by his company Primordial Soup, dedicated to exploring the possibilities of this technology. Despite the controversy, the industry seeks to integrate AI into its creative processes. A notable example is Ben Affleck, who sold his AI company to Netflix for $600 million, arguing that his technology is designed to complement and enrich creative work, not replace it. In this context, "Bitcoin: Killing Satoshi" emerges, directed by Doug Liman and starring Pete Davidson, Isla Fisher, Gal Gadot, and Casey Affleck. The film, which has generated controversy for both its theme and the involvement of its actors, is the largest Hollywood production to use AI as a central element in its development. Liman, known for "Mr. and Mrs. Smith," opted for a completely digital shoot, using AI-generated backgrounds and sets, eliminating traditional outdoor locations and lighting equipment. "Killing Satoshi is the first feature film of cinematic quality generated entirely by AI," Liman states. The technology has not only been used to create settings but also to digitally adjust the actors' performances, optimizing facial and body movements when necessary, significantly reducing the budget. The shoot took place in just 20 days within a "gray box," similar to the The Volume system popularized by "The Mandalorian." According to Liman, without AI, the cost would have reached $300 million, but thanks to this technology, production was limited to $70 million, minimizing travel, waste, and resources without sacrificing quality. The team consisted of 107 people, and the production was supported by Acme AI & FX, the company created by producer Ryan Kavanaugh. The script, written by Nick Schenk ("Gran Torino"), explores a conspiracy plot surrounding the figure of Satoshi Nakamoto, the enigmatic creator of Bitcoin, in a thriller that blends elements of "The Big Short" and "The Wolf of Wall Street." Liman acknowledges that the Hollywood community has shown skepticism towards the use of AI, fearing for the future of jobs in the sector. However, he argues that technology can democratize cinema and support human creativity rather than replace it. Now, the challenge is to find a distributor for the film at the Cannes Film Festival.
