Google has announced the integration of Intrinsic, its robotics subsidiary, with the aim of accelerating the advancement of artificial intelligence applied to the physical world. The company will leverage the AI models Gemini and Google’s cloud infrastructure to create software that simplifies the development, deployment, and management of intelligent robotic applications. Intrinsic initially emerged as a software project within the Google X innovation lab and became an independent company under Alphabet in 2021. After five years of autonomy, Intrinsic is re-integrating into Google, anticipating a revolution in the manufacturing industry driven by physical artificial intelligence. The company describes itself as “the Android of robotics,” thanks to its universal platform Flowstate, which allows the development of applications compatible with a wide variety of robots, sensors, cameras, AI models, and hardware. This solution enables developers to focus on creating applications without worrying about the technical complexity of the devices. In a statement, Intrinsic highlights that it has built a benchmark intelligent robotics platform for enterprise clients and that, in the past two years, it has experienced significant growth in the field of AI applied to robotics. The integration with Google will enhance collaboration in research, development, implementation, and operations, opening new opportunities in industrial sectors such as manufacturing and logistics. The integration of the Gemini models into industrial robotics will enable robots to perceive, analyze, and adapt to changes in real-time, making them key tools for companies to respond agilely to market demands. Wendy Tan White, CEO of Intrinsic, states that this union will profoundly transform industrial production, both economically and operationally, and will enable advanced manufacturing in key sectors. However, Intrinsic will continue to operate as a distinct group within Google, maintaining the independent development of its platform.
