The emergence of Artificial Intelligence in our daily lives has been as profound as it has been rapid. While many of the digital tools we used already incorporated AI in their functioning, the significant difference now is that anyone can access and leverage these technologies directly. This has opened up a range of opportunities but has also generated unprecedented challenges that threaten to radically transform the job market. A recent article in Developpez warns of a concerning trend: the automation of recruitment processes is creating a vicious cycle that hinders job placement, especially among young graduates. More and more candidates are relying on tools like ChatGPT to write their job applications, while recruiters are using automated systems to filter and evaluate resumes. The result is paradoxical: candidates are not landing interviews, nor are companies easily finding the talent they seek. This phenomenon is leading to a systemic crisis. Companies, faced with a flood of automatically generated applications, have tightened their filters and reduced job postings. The market, far from becoming more dynamic, is becoming more rigid and exclusive. The future, according to experts, could be even bleaker if these processes are not rethought. The article includes illustrative testimonies, such as that of Harris, a recent graduate from the University of California, Davis, who after sending over 200 AI-optimized applications has not secured a single interview. Or the case of Martine, a legal assistant with a decade of experience, who has also been unsuccessful despite her background. Technology, instead of facilitating the meeting between supply and demand, seems to be facing itself: chatbots that write resumes and others that discard them for detecting AI-generated patterns. The selection process has shifted from focusing on the candidate's experience or achievements to emphasizing the ability to include the right keywords, often also generated by AI. Thus, personality and creativity are sidelined, and the business objective of optimizing and speeding up hiring is diluted. The volume of applications is increasing, filters are tightening, and interviews are decreasing, creating an atmosphere of anxiety and uncertainty that could worsen in the coming years. Experts like Dario Amodei, former CEO of Anthropic, estimate that half of administrative jobs could disappear in the next five years. Geoffrey Hinton, a leading figure in AI, warns of the risk of mass and prolonged unemployment, as automation threatens to extend to all sectors. For now, the reduction in hiring could trigger a downward spiral: less employment, lower consumption, and an increasingly stagnant economy. Artificial Intelligence, far from being just a tool for progress, poses urgent challenges that require reflection and action to prevent the job market from becoming a maze with no exit.
