The advancement of Artificial Intelligence, which is already part of our reality, presents a scenario that is both promising and challenging. This was highlighted at the latest edition of La Mirada Económica by ABC Córdoba, held at the Fundación Caja Rural del Sur and presented by Francisco J. Poyato, director of ABC Córdoba. The event featured Mapi García, Head of Media Clients at Google Cloud Spain, who shared her insights on the impact and future of AI.
Artificial intelligence is currently one of the most relevant topics for companies, media, and users in a rapidly evolving environment. Mapi García, with over 15 years of experience in technology and six at Google, emphasized how business innovation is increasingly linked to AI, which allows for process optimization and tackling new challenges.
Google, a leader in AI development, has been applying this technology since 2001, as García explained. However, the true revolution has come with Generative Artificial Intelligence, capable of creating content from simple human instructions. “While aviation took 68 years to reach 50 million users, the Internet achieved it in 7 years, social media in 3, and AI in just 5 weeks,” García noted, also predicting that by 2027 we could see the arrival of General AI, capable of replicating human cognitive functions and learning autonomously.
García compared this moment to the discovery of fire: “At first, we didn’t know everything we could do with it.” According to the expert, companies that adopt AI will automate tasks within a decade, significantly increasing their efficiency.
The integration of AI into daily life is already a reality: virtual assistants, image editing tools, smart routes in Google Maps, or applications like Gemini, which generate content in various formats. García highlighted that the next step will be the emergence of AI agents capable of performing complete tasks for us, transforming our interaction with technology.
In the professional realm, AI is revolutionizing sectors like healthcare, with projects like AlphaFold, which predicts protein structures and facilitates drug development. García stated that AI could help eradicate diseases by identifying their causes more accurately. She also mentioned advancements like Gnome, which has discovered millions of new materials, AlphaCode for advanced programming, and NotebookLM, an AI assistant to enhance creativity and thinking.
The generation of images and videos through AI is another significant recent achievement. García shared practical examples, such as creating personalized stories to motivate children, illustrating how AI can transform education and the daily lives of future generations.
Regarding the future, García anticipated that it will soon be possible to delegate meetings and professional decisions to intelligent bots. Although the development of robots with precise movements and gestures is progressing more slowly, she does not rule out that they could be part of households in a few years.
AI is generating a new language and transforming family and professional life. The conclusion of the conference was clear: artificial intelligence is advancing rapidly, but it is essential to establish safeguards to avoid risks and ensure responsible development, as Mapi García warned.
